Most residential installation work falls between $100 and $180 per square metre. Our quotes are itemised so you can see each stage: site assessment, excavation and cartage, subgrade preparation and basecourse compaction, drainage, boxing and setout, reinforcing, the concrete, placing and finishing, cutting joints and curing. Anything that could change the figure, such as unexpected ground conditions, is flagged upfront rather than appearing later as a variation.

Timeframes depend on size and complexity, but most residential installations run three to seven days on site from preparation through to the finished pour. A path might take two days while a full driveway with drainage work takes a week. Curing time then runs beyond that, with light vehicles at seven days and heavy loads at 28. No, and we would rather reschedule than pour badly. Heavy rain damages a fresh surface and weakens it, saturated clay cannot be compacted properly, and very hot or windy conditions make concrete set too fast to finish correctly. We watch the forecast, plan pours around it, and use curing protection where conditions are marginal. Occasionally that means moving a date by a day or two.

It depends on the work. A new or widened vehicle crossing onto a public road needs approval from Hamilton City Council, with requirements covering crossing width, gradient, sight lines and stormwater from the new impervious surface. Slabs for habitable buildings and garages generally need building consent. We identify what applies at quote stage and can prepare and manage the applications on your behalf.

Because almost every failed driveway in Hamilton failed from underneath, not from the concrete itself. Clay soils move seasonally, and a slab sitting on poorly compacted or unsuitable ground moves with them, which is what causes cracking, sinking and uneven surfaces. Getting the excavation depth, hardfill, compaction and drainage right is unglamorous work that nobody sees, and it is what decides whether the surface lasts.
